Carlos Caterpillar - DVD - Review

I "see" there are a lot of homeschoolers taking or did take a Spring break. We did not.  However, we finished up our Dr Seuss teachings for March last Friday with our party and this week (mon - thur) we are doing some "light" work and having some more fun!  Today we watched and discussed this great DVD I wanted to share with you all.

It's from Herald Entertainment - "The Adventures of Carlos the Caterpillar" series and this one is titled "No Prize Surprise".   ( Herald Entertainment is an award winning production house dedicated to content-rich, family friendly entertainment by means of quality animation, documentaries, music and illustrations.  They produce the material in a multitude of languages also!)

This DVD series tells the growing up story of Carlos, an ever curious little caterpillar who often finds himself in one predicament or another. Helped by his Uncle Pedro, a butterfly with a lifetime of experience behind him, Carlos learns many lessons that will help him through his own little journey of life!

The DVD was 25 minutes long, just enough to keep the kids interested!  There are some Spanish words in the content which we had to listen carefully to see what was being said. Overall the kids loved it. Zachary said that the cartoon graphics were better than his video games (complement coming from a 6 year old boy). This story was how Carolos' friend got everything he wanted (money and toys) and Carolos' father could not afford to do that, but Uncle Pedro taught Carlos that money does not buy your family love and happiness and that is more important.  Zachary related to it with examples of how he wants a DS (handheld gaming unit) that "EVERYONE" has but him...lol....Great lesson, great theme.  I would recommend to anyone with younger children.  Even my 4 yr old loved it. (soon to be 4)!    On their website there are so many other things for children. Activities, games, videos and downloads!  Check 'em out!

Thank you Herold Entertainment (Robin) for allowing us to review this DVD.

National Chocolate Chip Day

May 15, 2012 is National Chocolate Chip Day Today is National Chocolate Chip Day! Chocolate chips are an essential ingredient in dozens of delicious baked goods—chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip pancakes, chocolate chip muffins, chocolate chip brownies, chocolate chip bagels, and many more. You can even find chili recipes that call for these sweet morsels! In the 1930s, Ruth Graves Wakefield created the original chocolate chip cookie at her Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. Ruth intended to bake chocolate cookies for her guests, but she ran out of baker’s chocolate. She substituted with chopped up semi-sweet chocolate morsels and discovered that the pieces did not melt into the dough as she expected. Her cookies were an instant hit. Today, 25% of all the cookies baked in the United States are chocolate chip! To celebrate National Chocolate Chip Day, pick up a bag of chocolate chips at the supermarket and bake something yummy to share with friends and cowor
