Creation, Earth Week & Planting

Great day in school today!   Started by learning about Creation (afterall how do you have Earth day without the creation of Earth...lol)   We are studying Earth Week, Easter & planting all week long...

I love these Bible Flash Cards that I picked up for FREE at a garage sale. Some lady had a table with FREE stuff on it...and there they were...50 of them..all in perfect shape!

Kids got a surprise for Earth Week...recycled lunch bags for our field trips. Instead of using baggies...only problem is, when I opened them, the plastic smelled soo bad, I am letting them air out..

Best coloring Z has done in a LONG TIME.

Zachary read this to us.

Cute song we sang and are learning for the week...tune of "This Old Man"

Hope you can read it...

Molly did some more in her Planting/Gardening Lapbook.

Zachary took a break from Multiplication today and did a fun money worksheet (had the flowers on it so I used it for this unit)

More lapbook....

Read this cute book to the kids while they colored their Earth pictures...

THEN ON TO THE PLANTING....

We did it up on our deck, since Sam was napping inside...

Both kids got some new gardening gloves today!

Looks like she is ready to operate!

Z picked carrots & lettuce to start with...using our egg shells that I saved so we can put them into bigger pots once they start up....

Molly picked wildflowers and basil (I think)

Then we took our kidney beans that we started last week in the cups (see blog post here) and planted them.

Hard to see in the pictures, but there are two leaves on one side inside this bean...real cool the kids thought

Putting seed stages in order...

All in all great day in school!

National Chocolate Chip Day

May 15, 2012 is National Chocolate Chip Day Today is National Chocolate Chip Day! Chocolate chips are an essential ingredient in dozens of delicious baked goods—chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip pancakes, chocolate chip muffins, chocolate chip brownies, chocolate chip bagels, and many more. You can even find chili recipes that call for these sweet morsels! In the 1930s, Ruth Graves Wakefield created the original chocolate chip cookie at her Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. Ruth intended to bake chocolate cookies for her guests, but she ran out of baker’s chocolate. She substituted with chopped up semi-sweet chocolate morsels and discovered that the pieces did not melt into the dough as she expected. Her cookies were an instant hit. Today, 25% of all the cookies baked in the United States are chocolate chip! To celebrate National Chocolate Chip Day, pick up a bag of chocolate chips at the supermarket and bake something yummy to share with friends and cowor
