Great day of School with Snakes!

Today has been another great school day...on a roll so far..lol...only three days in!

Picture from yesterday's craft...finally glue dried

Our postman gave us a tip that there was a momma Gardner snake and her babies down by the front of our property hanging out by some rocks...so of course we got our shoes on and grabbed our camera...made a lesson out of it!  Why not right! (we see them a lot but not this year yet due to the cold weather)

When we got down there there were 4 snakes, the mom was less vibrant and more active.  None of the kids were afraid, which was good at this point, however will have to teach them good from bad snakes.  There was a neighbor walking her dog also standing there watching them all and I said so hard to see them with the leaves and brush. Molly immediately said " that is what being camouflaged is called..."   I was smiling and the neighbor said "I am impressed!"    ah...homeschooled kids...love it!

Sammie decided to "read" some Franklin books...she was talking a mile a minute...

Our newest Flat Traveler arrived today from Ohio!  (I will be blogging about that soon)

Continued our research about butterflies...

Facts you may or may-not know about Butterflies

  • There are over 20,000 different types of butterflies
  • Butterflies can't hear sound.
  • Butterflies smell with their antennae.
  • They taste with their feet!
Fun huh!

3 days of happiness?!? Excellent. My kids would LOVE to have some snakes in our yard but it's a little too suburban for them. And too cold!

National Chocolate Chip Day

May 15, 2012 is National Chocolate Chip Day Today is National Chocolate Chip Day! Chocolate chips are an essential ingredient in dozens of delicious baked goods—chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip pancakes, chocolate chip muffins, chocolate chip brownies, chocolate chip bagels, and many more. You can even find chili recipes that call for these sweet morsels! In the 1930s, Ruth Graves Wakefield created the original chocolate chip cookie at her Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. Ruth intended to bake chocolate cookies for her guests, but she ran out of baker’s chocolate. She substituted with chopped up semi-sweet chocolate morsels and discovered that the pieces did not melt into the dough as she expected. Her cookies were an instant hit. Today, 25% of all the cookies baked in the United States are chocolate chip! To celebrate National Chocolate Chip Day, pick up a bag of chocolate chips at the supermarket and bake something yummy to share with friends and cowor
