First the craze was cupcakes....then cake pops....now I am seeing push pops everyone on the party scene/blog world. Of course, I had to try them out! Here is a tutorial for you in case you are planning on making them....there are a few pointers!
Start with your clean push pop holders - I got mine from Garnish - I {heart} them!
(the flag band is from
tweedledeedesigns.com -
originally ment for paper straws)
Last night I baked the mini cupcakes using my mini-muffin
pan with no papers. I used blue food coloring for the blue and
left the others white.
You can certainly make your own...I am more of a semi-homemade gal 8)
I have a ton of piping bags, but I still tend to use a see thru baggie
for my piping - HINT 1: I suggest NOT to just spoon the frosting in
it will tend to smear.
HINT 2: Don't overfill your mini muffin pan, you will have to cut the tops off
of all the cupcakes in order for them to fit correctly, then you are stuck with an
entire baggie of tops (which you put in the freezer for cake pops later!)
Pu a small dab of frosting on the bottom of your push stick, having
the stick pushed all the way to the top. Then insert your cupcake.
Pipe in your frosting - you can add sprinkles now if you would like to.
Pulling your push pop down so there is room for the next cupcake.
Then the 2nd cupcake - HINT 3 - I used too much frosting in between so I got
this smear look..less is more! .YUK to the eye...
Add your last bit of frosting to the top and your toppings.
Put on your top and set aside. I set them all upright until
I was done and they all went in the refrig after.
Here it is with the band on...covers some errors...LOL
2nd one, much better than the 1st..kinda like making
pancakes... doesn't the 1st pancake always look sad compared
to the rest...lol
Cupcake Tops - FREEZE THEM or give them to your kiddies to munch
on!
There you have it....these will be enjoyed tomorrow
at our 4th of July Playdate!
