(given to me by a friend almost 10 yrs ago)

2 cups shortening
2 cups sugar
4 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
(I also add 1 teaspoon of pumpkin spice, but not necessary if dont have it)
2 cups of canned solid pumpkin (not pumpkin puree)

GLAZE

3 tablespoons butter (melted)
4 tablespoons milk
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup confectioners sugar

Oven to 350
cream shortening and sugar
add dry ingredients
then add pumpkin
drop teaspoon size dough onto ungreased cookie sheet
bake 10 - 15 mins (when the peaks start to brown take them out)

DONT MAKE GLAZE UNTIL COMPLETED COOLED
then drizzle over cooled cookies

They freeze well and makes A LOT of cookies

These are by far the best cookies I have found to make!

National Chocolate Chip Day

May 15, 2012 is National Chocolate Chip Day Today is National Chocolate Chip Day! Chocolate chips are an essential ingredient in dozens of delicious baked goods—chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip pancakes, chocolate chip muffins, chocolate chip brownies, chocolate chip bagels, and many more. You can even find chili recipes that call for these sweet morsels! In the 1930s, Ruth Graves Wakefield created the original chocolate chip cookie at her Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. Ruth intended to bake chocolate cookies for her guests, but she ran out of baker’s chocolate. She substituted with chopped up semi-sweet chocolate morsels and discovered that the pieces did not melt into the dough as she expected. Her cookies were an instant hit. Today, 25% of all the cookies baked in the United States are chocolate chip! To celebrate National Chocolate Chip Day, pick up a bag of chocolate chips at the supermarket and bake something yummy to share with friends and cowor
