Let the New Year Begin - Chinese Style

I know that Chinese New Year does not officially start until Monday the 23rd, however, we are learning about China and the traditions of Chinese New Year all week and ending on Monday with our school party, SO (in typical ME style...) I thought why not make it feel more festive for the entire week!

Much more decor to come...wait until you see Monday's party!

Cut these dragons from my Silhouette SD machine.

FREE Download of the Chinese Zodiac over at CurrClick thanks to
Ingles 360! The kids and I looked up what animal was The Year Of.... when they were born...

What we read today - Not really Chinese related, but Dragon related...
after all 2012 is the year of the Dragon.

Purchased this from Simple Schooling at Currclick
for $ .99 and will be using the packet all week!

Watched some fun videos of Chinese New Year celebrations
 from the past years.

Our craft - found this printable and craft directions over at Craft Jr.

they wanted to stand behind the pass thru so it looked like the Dragon was walking
on it's own...

We made Chinese New Year Cookies...YUMMO
1 cup Chocolate Chips, 1/2 cup Butterscotch Chips - melt together
handful of peanuts and a handful of the LaChoy Noodles
Kids put the noodles and peanuts into the melted mixture and
I dropped on a cookie sheet, put into refrig and waited until
after lunch..OH So GOOD!

Looking forward to more fun this week with dragons and planning our
party for Monday!

Until tomorrow - Be Blessed!

FABULOUS! I'm with you on the educational benefits of celebrating this event with the kids. I've just started a weeks worth of 'oriental' crafts with my kids; so you're way ahead already! Great job. x

National Chocolate Chip Day

May 15, 2012 is National Chocolate Chip Day Today is National Chocolate Chip Day! Chocolate chips are an essential ingredient in dozens of delicious baked goods—chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip pancakes, chocolate chip muffins, chocolate chip brownies, chocolate chip bagels, and many more. You can even find chili recipes that call for these sweet morsels! In the 1930s, Ruth Graves Wakefield created the original chocolate chip cookie at her Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. Ruth intended to bake chocolate cookies for her guests, but she ran out of baker’s chocolate. She substituted with chopped up semi-sweet chocolate morsels and discovered that the pieces did not melt into the dough as she expected. Her cookies were an instant hit. Today, 25% of all the cookies baked in the United States are chocolate chip! To celebrate National Chocolate Chip Day, pick up a bag of chocolate chips at the supermarket and bake something yummy to share with friends and cowor
