Christmas Eve in Mexico and a Craft

Hola!

It's Christmas Eve here at The Joys Of Home Educating....Mexico Style!

We started out the day finishing up some fun worksheets about Mexico.

So cute. Sammie loved this. She colored it and I cut it out for her.

A few Mexico Themed word searches for the older two.

Then started our Christmas Eve teachings!
I loved this two page worksheet from Education.com

After some of the technical stuff...we got down to party business!

Time for Christmas Eve Festivities!

Little Mexicana Music to help set the mood!

Pinata Craft
(found idea HERE)

Gathered our supplies

Filled them up

Taped them together

Time to decorate our Pinatas

(I strung the string thru one cup before they filled and taped together)

What we read...

We put out the newest Nativity that the girls painted this year.
On Christmas Eve the Baby Jesus and the Wise Men are not present. It's not until tomorrow morning (Christmas Day) when he will appear (as Sammie said DUH mom.)  The three Wise Men will come on January 6th (Three Kings Day)

This is "Chewy"  our newest classmate.
Molly said he is Mexican so he joined us 8)

We also had some fresh baked cookies for snack
(eaten too quickly to get a picture).

We have so enjoyed learning about Mexico this week!

 Tomorrow - Fiesta!

Until then - Adios

I love this book! We rarely get snow so in some ways our Christmas is like the one long ago. You did so many amazing things with this book.

I will be sharing it on the Read.Explore.Learn. Facebook page tomorrow.

National Chocolate Chip Day

May 15, 2012 is National Chocolate Chip Day Today is National Chocolate Chip Day! Chocolate chips are an essential ingredient in dozens of delicious baked goods—chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip pancakes, chocolate chip muffins, chocolate chip brownies, chocolate chip bagels, and many more. You can even find chili recipes that call for these sweet morsels! In the 1930s, Ruth Graves Wakefield created the original chocolate chip cookie at her Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. Ruth intended to bake chocolate cookies for her guests, but she ran out of baker’s chocolate. She substituted with chopped up semi-sweet chocolate morsels and discovered that the pieces did not melt into the dough as she expected. Her cookies were an instant hit. Today, 25% of all the cookies baked in the United States are chocolate chip! To celebrate National Chocolate Chip Day, pick up a bag of chocolate chips at the supermarket and bake something yummy to share with friends and cowor
