NO SPEND JANUARY - MONDAY UPDATE - WEEK 3 - Epic Fail

Hi friends - WELCOME!  If you are on this No Spend January journey with us, how's it going? If you are not, maybe you want to jump right in!  You can find out the " guidelines" at this post .  As promised, I am back today with an update on our third week of No Spend January with our fails and our wins! First let's talk about what categories we spent money on: Gas - my truck and hubby's car Credit card payment (we use 1 card for everything and then pay off each month, getting those collage points!) Walmart - weekly grocery pick up - $ 91.16 Shoprite - $ 8.33 (lactose free cheese & bagels) CVS - $ 10.59 (kids flossers and VICKS rub) RV Show - $ 18 entrance fee & a snack at the show So I was a little over this week with the $ 91,16, $ 8.33 and $ 10.59 for my "grocery" and home care items. But still did great!  We had lots of snow again this week and temps were COLD for most of the week.  Dinner Meal Plan:...

Happy New Year's - Now it's time for the No Spend Challenge

Now that all the cleaning up from last nights' festivities are over, you can concentrate on what lies ahead in January.  #NoSpendChallenge For our family, it means starting the No Spend January Challenge #NoSpendChallenge.  We start by praying about it. Praying that God will help me with the temptations of the 80% off Christmas decor that I could use for next year, praying that our children will embrace the challenge and not ask for delivery pizza each week, pray that we find ourselves content with what we DO have and not idolize those things.   I will pray for you and your family as well.  Will you pray for us? If you are just joining me, I do encourage you to read the previous posts on how to prepare for January.   You can join in at any time in the month.  Starting UP  - The Essentials No Spend Checklist Grocery Shopping Unsubscribing Preparing for Scheduled Spending I also encourage you to keep a journal of ...

Family NYE Party On a Budget

#KidsNYE For the last three years, we have made a decision to ring in the new year as a family.  Okay maybe that means that they all wake me up at 11:50 pm for 11 minutes then I crawl into my bed.  However it plays out, we do it as a family.  The night consists of snacking, video games, board games and some silly dancing.  I don't go overboard (for me that's a statement) but do enough to make it feel special.  My go to place is our local Dollar Tree (not a sponsored post, just love our Dollar Tree) . A few years ago they came to town and they are here to stay. I love the assortment of party items.  Giving myself a budget of $ 10 was easy to make all the magic happen.  These cute cardboard hats are perfect for the children.   I embellished, adding the 2015 with my Silhouette Cameo (black vinyl). Even the polka dot wrapping paper was from the Dollar Tree.  The gold star plates were a bonus item t...

Travel Ideas - Road Trips with Children - Keeping the Budget

*Post may container affiliate links. See policy at bottom of blog.  In just a few days I am packing up all four of my children (ages 4-25) and hitting the open road!  We are traveling from NY to NC to see my ailing father.  After a few days in NC we are back in the truck heading further South to SC (I was born in Charleston, SC) to visit my aunt and uncle for a week. My husband, due to work, won't be joining us.  My oldest son will be flying home mid-vacation.  I will admit I am anxious about traveling this far with the children without my husband to help out. Especially the home trip without another adult helping.  Keeping the children occupied (using DVD player as a last resort) is important to me. With some preplanning and forethought, I was able to put together some great Travel Containers for them!  Keeping with a tight budget is a must since the trip (gas alone) is costing us a pretty penny.  Finding a lot at Dollar Tree sto...
