Farmhouse Friday: Where I am failing and our week in pictures

Happy Fall - it's official...although the weather her in NY would prove you wrong. It's in the 80's now and the good news - the pool is still open!   It's been a busy week - filled with ups and downs. One would hope more ups than downs but it might be pretty equal this last week.  I have been having some car troubles lately and after three times of being back in the shop, praying finally fixed!  Now on to our week.... The garden is still producing tomatoes, cucumbers, squash and a TON of Asian Pears!   The on and off humidity and rain has these mushrooms growing everywhere!  One area in which I fail my family (kids mostly) is field trips. I used to take them all the time to far off places and I got so lazy about it over the last few years. I started being such a homebody and my driving tolerance for others on the road has gotten real bad. BUT I am really trying to venture out more and take the kids on fun excursions. We have ...

First Friday Wrap Up

Happy First Friday Friends!   I can't believe we are in the first Friday of March!  We got a little dusting of snow last night but I think this might be it...we will be saying good bye to winter!  Bring on spring! We had a busy week... Last weekend we had an open house at our home. Had some great traffic and already got 1 offer (too low but it's moving in the right direction) .  The other home we are buying is moving along also...inspections are done, well test done and radon test done. Just waiting for some commitments back from the sellers on some repairs per the inspection and then we should go to contract!  HOMESCHOOL HAPPENINGS Leap Year - Monday my littlest was sick with a fever (over the weekend also) and so I just had two for school on Monday. We talked about Leap Year and the science behind it.  Also talked about frogs.  Molly (3rd) started learning how to use the dictionary (I mean the REAL paper versi...

Wrapping Up the Week - Collage Friday

Happy Friday! Thanks for stopping by for our weekly wrap up.  We are expecting some snow this weekend and I am praying they are not wrong. The kids and hubby have ski passes to a local mountain and it's killing me that the money is being wasted and I want to get out on the 4-wheelers and tear it up! What happened here this week Sunday:   Football and family - my older son and his wife and our "grandpuppy" came up for a visit. Fun snacks, dinner and oh that dessert!  Working on the February plans for school. Sammie and Molly: both have had some challenges this week with book work. I have tried to be patient with Sammie, but it's very hard sometimes. Pray for me please! LEGOS:  Oh yes, the LEGO happenings..LOVING all of it and they are getting so creative with their play. Where Are We Wednesday:  Hawaii Reading a lot!   HIGHLIGHT of the week:  We watched A LEGO Brickumentary (hour and 1/2) on Ama...

Collage Friday - Weekly Update

Happy Friday everyone!   So glad you are here! Thanks for stopping by.  It's been a great homeschooling week and we finally got a small amount of snow. Makes it pretty, but not enough to really play in.  Here is our busy week in review in pictures.... Creative thinking:  Sammie has been following more of an "unschooling" routine lately. She has no desire to sit at the table and do any kind of "book work" unless its a group project. She has been doing a lot of hands on activities. I will admit, it's a little struggle for me, being the mom who has a plan and likes to stick with it, but I am trying to be flexible with her.  Home Economics - for Home Ec the children do daily chores and cooking. This week the girls created a yummy treat from Sammie's Highlights February issue of the Highlights magazine (a Christmas present). They were sooo yummy! Art It's been a great week for Art.   Chalk Pastel...

Weekly Happenings....

Welcome back! If you are here, it means it's Friday once again.  A full week of school, practices and life happenings... Masterpiece Monday  - Vincent Van Gogh was our subject.  Sunflowers were one of Van Gogh's favorite things to paint. We happen to have some in the house so we had a fun time drawing them.  Sammie had fun with some Art for Kids (love that Rob!) Monday was a holiday for Daddy so he was able to go to the Pumpkin Fest with us. Nice family outing!  Pumpkins, games, play time with friends we don't see that often. More fun and games at the Pumpkin Fest. It's a beautiful time up here in the Northeast.  New York Fall never disappointments. The girls love to get out and draw what they see in the yard.  Hikes around the back property are always a must!  What's not pictured:  Three martial arts practices for Sammie. Two sewing classes for Molly. ...

Our week in nature....a GREAT find!

Before I show you what we have been up to...don't forget to enter the Keep'em Busy giveaway !  The rain finally stopped, not that I am not thankful for the rain, but it dampens our outdoor time.  Once we ventured out to the yard after so much rain, we found lots of activity!   You can't tell by these pictures but there are actually two groundhogs under our shed.  They were fighting earlier and I broke it up. Biting at each other's necks and "screaming".  I felt bad so I ran out and broke it all up. Then I waited a bit and one of the contenders came out for a bit.  We love watching them eat our clover in the yard.  My roses are "reblooming"....wild raspberries are everywhere in our yard and neighborhood...Samantha is leaving a little bath and house for any bugs that need to get out of the sun and looking for some refuge....loving all the wildflowers around right now.  We always have a wide variety of birds at the feede...

Upper Left:  Girls working on their latest Kiwi Crate.  If you are not familiar with Kiwi Crate you should be.  Do you have a young one who loves crafting, art, science and exploration?  Then you need to check out Kiwi Crate...you can click on the LARGE Kiwi Crate button on my sidebar.  Upper Right : Lunch time with Story Cubes .  We have used Story Cubes on and off for a few years. LOVE THEM - portable, durable and everyone can participate! Lower Left:  I have been doing a lot of sketching lately.  Seems to be my creative outlet, when I have an extra few minutes. Lo...
