Farmhouse Friday

Welcome to another Farmhouse Friday here at Woodwater Farmhouse.  Things are still pretty warm around here but that heat will break today!  Not sure if it will return but at least for the weekend we catch a break! Which is great, because we are camping again!  Last weekend we camped - farm camping is our favorite!  It's in a beautiful part of New Jersey and less than an hour from our home.  The nice thing about camping here this time of year, you leave your camper on your site as long as you camp three weekends in a row!  Score!  They have a great dog park also!  A ton of dogs at this campground make it fun for Lilly too!  Cows, calves, goats, sheep, bunnies, donkeys and mini horses...oh and ducks. All there to be loved on!  We brought a bag full of our Asian pears to share with them all!   The theme of the weekend was Halloween. We participated last year and it was so much fun. This year Molly was the onl...

Camping Adventures - July

We have been trying to find different campgrounds to try out. Our "usual" is a Jellystone in the beautiful Hudson Valley of New York.  This time we went a little further Northeast near Albany to a KOA.  I have never been to a KOA and had pretty high expectations.   (that's all I got to say about that....) Besides the "usual" camping fun, s'mores, camp fire and playground fun.... We found some funny moments to capture.... The phone booth was a fun picture and the owner says it rings from time to time...lol.. Oh the stories I could think of if I answer!   We found this BIG DADDY skillet in the camping store - Zachary thought it was hilarious!  They had a cute craft on Saturday - kids decorated a fabric bag to bring back later that night for a Candy Hunt (in the dark) . Fun times.  One of my favorite things to do was hike the camp grounds. They had created a Nature Walking Path around the entire campground.  We wer...

A Fairy Tee-Pee: Natural Play

Camping is one of the best memories for our children.  Out in the wilderness, pigging out on great food, fellowship with our friends and enjoying what nature has to offer them. On this recent camping trip, I suggested an idea to the children what would open their minds up to great imagination.  We were going to try to attract the Camping Fairies to our area by building them a fun Fairy Tee-pee (inspired by this post: Balanced and Barefoot ) Gathering materials was the first order of business...twigs, ferns, rocks, dead tree bark, little parts of nature.      The children built a fence leading up to the tee-pee, keeping out unwanted creatures.  Love the flag! We found some tree fungi and I assisted with a welcome sign.  We even used a papertowel roll that was about to be throw into our camp fire, to make a great patio table and chairs for the Camping Fairy. Having a camping fire ring is im...

Farm Camping 101

Last weekend we went a little out of our comfort zone and camped at  FARM Campground.  My first impression was not the best, I will admit. I think I have turned into a "snobby" camper.  Expecting a certain standard the minute I drive on to the grounds.   I quickly put into my place, knocked down a notch, off of my high horse. This was probably one of the BEST camping weekends we have ever had as a family.   Across from our campsite were mini horses, a month old calf and her mom, turkeys and more...the kids were in their glory with all the outdoor fun... gezz no one seemed to miss the Ipads, TVs or computers one bit!   Isn't it beautiful! This lamb was born while were we there...5 pm on Saturday night...by 10 am Sunday morning we were holding them, loving them and being a part of their first life experiences.   Sammie want to take this little girl home.   This calf was born the day after Easter. ...

Camping for Mother's Day.....a tradition

Camping...ah...one of the still affordable vacations left for families.   I remember camping when I was younger and I can still remember all the fun we had fishing, campfires, running around, exploring nature and staying up until all hours of the night catching fireflies.  I want my children to have those memories and we are making that happen! We have been camping with the same family for years now. We tend to gravitate towards this one particular place more than others as it's conveniently located between both families and it's extremely kid friendly.    Mother's Day 2014 - not including the little guy sitting on the rock...we have a 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 year old there! This Mother's Day weekend is always our kick off weekend for camping.  We upgraded to a travel trailer last year but our friends are still "roughing" it in a tent (truth be told, I do miss a tent every now and then). We love to go exploring and find ...
