A Homeschool Mother's Journal - week 2

 The Homeschool Chick

In my life this week...

Eric and I finally got to go out this past weekend on a much needed date (day). We had a Applebees gift card burning a hole in our pocket since the Fall. I asked my older son, Jeremy, and his girlfriend to come and watch the kids while we went out.  We had a nice 3 hours away from the house and had a great lunch. So full I could not even eat dinner that night!

In our homeschool this week...

We were winding down our studies on Polar Bears and Washington State.  I was gearing up for a busy February.  So many significant days in February = plenty to blog about! 8)

Places we're going and people we're seeing...

We will try to get to the library this coming week, we did last week. However, they are predicting a few storms this week coming up in NY, so we will see.  Today we went to Chuck E Cheese as a treat!

My favorite thing this week was...

My date day with my hubby and some more crafting done!

What's working/not working for us...

So far, doing our "sit down" work while Sam naps is working out great!

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have...

Thoughts - can't wait until I can assign a days worth of work and they can work more independently!

A photo to share...

Zachary received the order from Lego Education that his grandma bought for him.  He is into making mechanical things that work right now. He was sooo excited!

Sounds like a good week. My and hubby need to get out soon as well! Thanks for stopping by and entering my contest!

National Chocolate Chip Day

May 15, 2012 is National Chocolate Chip Day Today is National Chocolate Chip Day! Chocolate chips are an essential ingredient in dozens of delicious baked goodsā€”chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip pancakes, chocolate chip muffins, chocolate chip brownies, chocolate chip bagels, and many more. You can even find chili recipes that call for these sweet morsels! In the 1930s, Ruth Graves Wakefield created the original chocolate chip cookie at her Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. Ruth intended to bake chocolate cookies for her guests, but she ran out of bakerā€™s chocolate. She substituted with chopped up semi-sweet chocolate morsels and discovered that the pieces did not melt into the dough as she expected. Her cookies were an instant hit. Today, 25% of all the cookies baked in the United States are chocolate chip! To celebrate National Chocolate Chip Day, pick up a bag of chocolate chips at the supermarket and bake something yummy to share with friends and cowor...

Collage Friday and a Video

We have had a good week here in NY. The snow is melting and the signs of spring are everywhere!  I am ready for the light coat and to put away my Uggs for the season.   Zachary worked on the Women and Children of the Revolutionary War - and some fun Scholastic - Super Science!  He is always working on his IPAD playing Scrabble, Words with Friends, Monopoly, Stack the States and Stack the Countries. The girls and I talked about what is happening outside with the plants and animals. Waking up!  Sammie also enjoyed this Sofia the First Unit. We had so much fun making our Chocolate Volcano Cakes from our Raddish box this week.   Of course some Spring crafting was in order. We made these easy cupcake paper and button flowers pictures. Also using some kitchen sponges (for stamping)  from dollar store to make these beautiful spring cards.  Thursday Science - again going to our Raddish box and finding a cool experiment. ...
