February - Shining the Spotlight

Happy February Friends!

I am excited to bring you another Shining the Spotlight post. February's spotlight small business is dear to my heart for a few reasons. One: it's a small woman owned business by someone that I am friends with in real life and two, it's a company that really cares about our environment and recycling and upcycling.

Caroline Califf is the mastermind behind Uptote and I love her tagline - where creativity and upcycling meet.

From rustic lavender sachets to her latest creations (selling out quickly) the FuzzBud Buddie Plushie.  Her workmanship is second to none.  Some of her first creations that I was attracted to was her upcycled handbags. Taking old jeans and pants and making handbags and totebags with them. I have a few in my handbag collection.

Uptote has been on Etsy since 2010.  With a variety of handmade products and some supplies to make your own. Caroline has the skill level of a high end designer with the attention to detail that so many others lack.   I am the proud owner of a few of her handbags and other products. We have some of her acorn garland hanging in our school room!

Cornhole beanbags - custom colors available. Also great for homeschoolers phys ed class!

Aren't these just adorable!!!  Some of the new colors coming out are gorgeous!  What a great birthday party favor they would make!

She is always adding items to her shop all the time. To keep up with what she offers, her Instagram page is the place to be. I encourage you to check out her shop and her IG page!   Rumor has it that she is starting to offer patterns soon!

National Chocolate Chip Day

May 15, 2012 is National Chocolate Chip Day Today is National Chocolate Chip Day! Chocolate chips are an essential ingredient in dozens of delicious baked goodsā€”chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip pancakes, chocolate chip muffins, chocolate chip brownies, chocolate chip bagels, and many more. You can even find chili recipes that call for these sweet morsels! In the 1930s, Ruth Graves Wakefield created the original chocolate chip cookie at her Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. Ruth intended to bake chocolate cookies for her guests, but she ran out of bakerā€™s chocolate. She substituted with chopped up semi-sweet chocolate morsels and discovered that the pieces did not melt into the dough as she expected. Her cookies were an instant hit. Today, 25% of all the cookies baked in the United States are chocolate chip! To celebrate National Chocolate Chip Day, pick up a bag of chocolate chips at the supermarket and bake something yummy to share with friends and cowor...

Collage Friday and a Video

We have had a good week here in NY. The snow is melting and the signs of spring are everywhere!  I am ready for the light coat and to put away my Uggs for the season.   Zachary worked on the Women and Children of the Revolutionary War - and some fun Scholastic - Super Science!  He is always working on his IPAD playing Scrabble, Words with Friends, Monopoly, Stack the States and Stack the Countries. The girls and I talked about what is happening outside with the plants and animals. Waking up!  Sammie also enjoyed this Sofia the First Unit. We had so much fun making our Chocolate Volcano Cakes from our Raddish box this week.   Of course some Spring crafting was in order. We made these easy cupcake paper and button flowers pictures. Also using some kitchen sponges (for stamping)  from dollar store to make these beautiful spring cards.  Thursday Science - again going to our Raddish box and finding a cool experiment. ...
