Field Trip Friday - Finding Home Farms

Welcome friends..it's been a while since I have had a chance to catch y'all up on what's happening over here at the farmhouse... Today we are coming at you from Finding Home Farms sugar-house.  I have blogged about them before a few years ago. You can catch up on them HERE.   Tapping maples trees is something that a lot of people in the northeast do, but Dana at Finding Home does it in abundance. With thousands of trees tapped, they have some of the yummiest maple syrup around!  (our family buys this syrup all the time for our home use and we bring it camping each trip!) The day was a little overcast, but not too bad, if you were properly dressed.  We invited two other homeschool families (you will probably recognize them from other trips ) to join us on our adventure at the maple sugar farm. Their new facility is sooo pretty and on point with the surroundings.  We started right outside the sugar house with a lesson on t...

The Farm Sanctuary - Not for the faint of heart

Our family field trip to The Farm Santucary From their site:   New York Shelter Nestled in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of Upstate New York, the rolling green pastures of Farm Sanctuary’s 175-acre New York shelter are home to more than 500 rescued farm animals. Spend the day with us and take an hour-long guided tour, browse our unique gift shop, learn more about farm animals in our Education Center, or enjoy a snack on our scenic deck.  (They have three locations in the United States.)  I was looking for something for an educational afternoon while we were in Watkins Glen, NY camping for the NASCAR Race.  I found this place on line and it looked interesting.  What we found it to be, we were instore for something completely out of our comfort zone.  The place is BEAUTIFUL...rolling hills...big red barns...beautiful animals roaming around.  When we arrived at 2 pm that day (beauty of a day I might add), we were told that we had...

Field Trip - Bear Mountain Zoo

This Zoo is a smaller, more hiking, nature type zoo. There are also a handful of "museums" within the trails. It was a great day to be out and about..We picnicked after walked the trailside and then headed for home...Best thing - FREE! (I think weekends you pay to park, but not during the week - until the "season" starts) Lodge  Pretty lake picnic side Tunnel leading from the picnic side of the park to the zoo side - goes under the street. Lots to read about! The Bear Mountain Bridge - hubby goes over this every day to work...not a bad view huh! Great day!   Be Blessed! Linking to:
