Getting Kids to Write! (and a LEGO Printable)

It's a sure bet that if you ask Zachary to write a story, copy work or anything else to do with writing he will moan and groan...do whatever he can to get out of the assignment or make it shorter.   It's always been a struggle for him to physically write. He is great at telling the stories and telling me, in words, what he wants to write. He never learned, not because I did not try to teach him , to hold the pencil correctly. His handwriting looks like a preschoolers chicken scratch.  Now ask the boy to type anything and he is a speed demon.  lol.... HOWEVER, when Mary over at Homegrown Learners created these cool writing prompts using LEGO Mini Figures as her point of interest, well I thought, why not give it one last try.... I printed them all out and put them into our Tuesday Writing folder.  Today when he asked what he had for work...I pulled out just three of the prompts and told him to think of a creative sentence and he had to write the...

Tuesday already?

Umm..Monday was a blurr I guess....lol...Hubby had the day off and he took all three children snow skiing.  They are so enjoying the snowy weather and time with their dad!  Of course, instead of spending those 4 hours in bliss by myself...I worked on school lesson plans...LOL...when they got home we ate lunch and started right in on school. It was a big day for our nation and I was not going to skip this teaching moment! We actually watched the Private swearing in on Sunday at noon on TV - the kids were skiing when the "fun stuff" was happening yesterday.  We were able to learn some from our Scholastic reader magazines. Girls had fun with this cute game from Teaching Heart Sidebar: Found these great signs at Dollar Tree - funny how they just jumped into my card 8) We made Macaroni Penguins out of felt.  Continuing with our Solar System fun - we watched this episode from The Magic School Bus . KID...

Loving school..

Today I got an "I love school mom" ..... "you are the best teacher". .... now I know it's only a "moment" that I get that, but I will take it! Probably because of this.... LEGO BINGO today!   (you can find this game and more at Homegrown Learners) Plus they had to create a Christmas Mini Figure. Girls having fun with the dot daubers from Royal Balboo Love it when the older ones help out the littles.  Makes my heart sing 8) Today while we went back to Argentina studies we found out that in the Northern part of the country they don't get snow during Christmas as it is their Summer - often they will use cotton balls to put onto their Christmas Trees to mimic the white stuff.  Kids thought that was a hoot.    Tomorrow - a craft to help decorate for "Christmas Eve" in Argentina! Until then - Be Blessed!

Legos, Farms and an Educational Playdate!

One of my friends, who happens to be starting homeschooling her daughter this year, invited us to a Farm Party - with a Lego Duplo Theme.  Oh my she went over the top for this party/playdate!  She had crafts set up for the kids. She had the felt board out. She read a story to them. Kids had a ball - learning - playing - creating! Love it! Thanks to my gal pal, Kimberly for all the time and effort you put into the party for the kids! FUN LEGO FACTS: The LEGO minifigure represents the WORLDS" LARGEST POPULATION of people with over 4 Billion minifigures being produced in the last 30 years.  That is almost 12 times the population of the US! There are 915 Million ways to combine 6 eight stud LEGO bricks! The word LEGO is the contraction of two Danish words, LEG GODT which means Play Well! There are over 2,500 different LEGO Star Wars minifigures! If you built a column of about 40 million LEGO Bricks it would reach the MOON! Be Blessed!
