Farmhouse Friday - Curriculum Review

Welcome friends to a special Farmhouse Friday today.  I am excited to share a curriculum that I found that is fun and educational! This is not a new curriculum, but new to our homeschool.  Years ago, my sister in law passed on some school books and magazines that her son was no longer using and in the pile was was a few items from Highlights . They sat on a shelf for a while, until recently, and collected dust.  I finally got around to pulling some of it out and what I found was a gem!  There was this folder that said secret mission. I opened it and found a fun game/activity that I knew the girls would love.  After they completed it, I knew I had to look into ordering more for them.  Are you familiar with Highlights ?  I am sure you are.  We have used their magazines in our homeschool for years but never their adventure kits.  (in their own words..) For more than 70 years Highlights has been dedica...

Reading Curriculum - Third Grade from BJU Press - Review

Today I am coming to you from our homeschool room.  I wanted to chat a minute about a wonderful new curriculum we started using from  BJU Press .  Our Sammie, third grade, recently started Adventures in Reading 3A from BJU Press.  SHE LOVES IT!   My goals for Sammie were to foster the joy of reading and look at stories through a biblical worldview.  Although there are many more goals that BJU Press has for this curriculum such as: encourage fluency teach vocabulary in context enhance comprehension There is more than enough extra teaching information in the Teachers Key.   I am finding myself not even utilizing all the information they give you in the workbook.  We have only been doing the pages that apply to the stories we are reading. They give you extra pages for skills.  I have yet to use the Teacher's Toolkit CD that comes with this curriculum.  That kit contains many aids to assis...

Student Logbook: A product review

Today I am excited to share with you a new tool for your homeschool students, as well as one for yourself. My Student Logbook was created out of necessity!  Corina has a great story to share with you as how this all came about.  You are invited to click over and read all about it.   HER STORY. When I was contacted by Corina about her student logbook I was intrigued.  We had not really tracked anything much in our homeschool (except attendance) and I saw this as an opportunity to get more organized on both the student and teacher level. I was impressed with the quality of the book and loved the cover design she picked out for us.  It does come in MANY different themes that you can pick from.  The set up was easy to follow using their video provided on their website but there are also written instructions inside the logbook. Zachary was excited to get started.   We used it for a week and I found that Zachary had ...
