Our Faithfulness and Olympic Learning

As July comes to a close today, I reflect on where the Summer has gone?  We have been busy, yes!  We have been blessed, yes!  But have we been faithful, sorry to say no 8(    We have not attended church one time since mid June when Sunday School ended.  We always seem to have something scheduled on Sundays in the Summer or we are too tired to get there after a busy Saturday.  Was Jesus too tired for me?   NO way. ..what is it about Summer that makes us more relaxed about church?  hmm...pondering that today. We are having a great time, as a family, watching the Olympics. We catch it at night when we can and the kids are loving the Swimming events the most so far.  Today in school we started tracking the top three Countries in medal wins - US, China and Japan, on a new chart I made up.  We also had fun with Olympic Tic Tac Toe from Homeschool Journeys Yesterday was a Fun day out and about celebrating Zachary's Birthday with a trip to Toys R Us to spend some gift cards, lunch out

EZ CRAFT - Make Your Own Olympic Ring Poster

In studying the history of the Olympics this week one of the fun crafts we did was to make this big Olympic Ring poster to display in our school room.   It was EZ and FUN! What you need: (we got all supplies at the Dollar Tree) 1 poster board ( we used a piece of foam core board) Paper (we used crepe paper ) in all the "ring" colors Glue stick 2 size bowls to draw the rings What I did 1st was to draw the 5 rings on the board Then we put glue around the ring a little at a time Tearing the crepe paper up in tiny pieces and pressing it into the glue... Continued this all the way around... There you go...my 5 year old had fun helping but  I know that had my 3 yr old been awake she would have been just as helpful! What we read today!  Cute cute book! Molly working on her Olympic Lapbook - LOVE her fire - creative with the different colors. More lapbook fun - Olympic puzzle from Homeschool Journeys We are done with school this week as far as bookwork goes...tomorrow we are  taping

Let the GAMES Begin...Olympic Style!

Today we started our FUN Teachings on the 2012 Summer Olympics in London !  We made our fact/fun board and learned about how the  Olympics  started....when the torch was first introduced...what the colors of the rings mean and more.... Zachary was interested to find out when the first Olympic Torch was introduced and how old it was.  In the sanctuary of Olympia, where the ancient Games took place, a flame burnt permanently on the altar of the goddess Hestia, but transportation of the flame to the site of the modern Olympics did not happen until the 1936 Games in Berlin He researched who was President during different Olympic periods. We learned how the 5 rings represent Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania and every national flag in the world includes at least one of the 5 colors. Of course, I had to decorate for the duration of the entire Olympics (more to come) LOL We made our Olympic Board...tracking the Weather in London, different events, the history and our Olympic Art
