Graduating our First and College Year One

It's been a real hot minute since I have been back to this space and I wanted to update you a little on what has been happening. We graduated our first homeschooler last June, Zachary, and he is finishing his first year at college. He has excelled and exceeded our expectations and for that, we are grateful.  He found "his people" real early in the year and has established a great group of friends.  He has maintained a 4.0 in this freshman year and is thriving.   We are so proud of him.  He earned and wore two tassels at his home graduation ceremony - Green cord was for his over 100 hours of community service in his high school career and the gold was for honors in Math.   It was a long road to get to this place and a lot of lessons learned but it was so worth it!   If I am honest, I find myself longing for those days when we would spend the day at the Bronx Zoo or meet up with other homeschoolers at the park.   Those days are gone and wh...

Farmhouse Friday

Happy Friday Y'all!  Another week flew by!  Here is what has been going on over here at the farmhouse and beyond....   We are all ready for fall and Halloween!  Decorated up!  Sadly we get no trick or treaters because of where we live.  Molly was invited to a special luncheon at one of the public schools in our area.  She had a lot of fun adventuring into a world she is not familiar with.  The deer are getting into everything around here. We had to take the chicken wire fencing down around the garden as they were hurting themselves trying to get in and out to eat what was left. Now it's just a grazing feast for them.  The weather is still strange. One day hot and humid and another cooler temps. We are still not where we should be for this time of year. I want cooler temps!  One thing we don't have is chickens. I have always wanted them but we are not ready for the responsibility yet. BUT ...

The Joys of Home Educating - and the challenges too 8)

When my husband and I made the decision to home educate our children it was not a decision we came to on a whim.  I prayed about it...read a stack of books on it....spoke and listened to others who were veterans in home educating their children.   The final decision was that this is what is best for OUR children.   Side note:  Hubby and I are not ANTI Public schools we are just PRO Home Schooling - please note that.   OUR choice has been met with (as expected) a lot of eye rolls, questions, concerns, talking behind our backs and more - not just from "friends" but family members also.   For those out there who think that home schooling your child (ren) is easy and we just play all day - oh how wrong you are!  Yes we do get a lot of hugs, and down time - when needed - but my time is 100% devoted to being their mom, their teacher, their mentor and there is very little "me" time at all. This is OUR choice and I would not change that for anything. For ME - ...
