Where has all the canned pumpkin gone?

Fall would not be Fall in our kitchen if we did not have everything made with pumpkin!  The problem right now, is that Hurricane Irene wiped out so many pumpkin crops that there is not a can of Pure Pumpkin to be found anywhere....Friends in England, Germany and here in the US can't find it!

I am making a plea to you, my followers....IF your store carries Canned Pumpkin (solid, not puree)...I am in need of some...I will pay you for them (and shipping)....would love to hear from you!  Thanks so much!

I'm not sure what you need it for, but have you ever made it yourself? You just buy one of those small pie pumpkins, cut it in half, clean out the seeds, wrap each half in tin foil, and bake it. Once it's done, you scrape out the pumpkin from the shell (is that what it's called? lol) and it's ready to use! It would probably be 2-3 cans worth.

Really? I haven't even really paid attention. When I go to the grocery I will keep an eye out!

You cna also steam it, then pureee it in a blender so it's smooth. I made a ton last year and froze it, so I'm set for this year. :) Also the canned pumpkin is often more butternut squash than pumpkin, so if you want true pumpkin, making it yourself is the only way to know for sure you've got it.

I make pumpkin cookies and cakes...only 2 ingredients...1 yellow cake boxed mix and 1 can solid pumpkin...that's it...mix and bake.the most moist delicious you have ever had...really easy and the kids help out...I would have to try it the other way using real pumpkin but not sure if it comes out the same way....

National Chocolate Chip Day

May 15, 2012 is National Chocolate Chip Day Today is National Chocolate Chip Day! Chocolate chips are an essential ingredient in dozens of delicious baked goods—chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip pancakes, chocolate chip muffins, chocolate chip brownies, chocolate chip bagels, and many more. You can even find chili recipes that call for these sweet morsels! In the 1930s, Ruth Graves Wakefield created the original chocolate chip cookie at her Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. Ruth intended to bake chocolate cookies for her guests, but she ran out of baker’s chocolate. She substituted with chopped up semi-sweet chocolate morsels and discovered that the pieces did not melt into the dough as she expected. Her cookies were an instant hit. Today, 25% of all the cookies baked in the United States are chocolate chip! To celebrate National Chocolate Chip Day, pick up a bag of chocolate chips at the supermarket and bake something yummy to share with friends and cowor
