Collage Friday - wrapping up November!

It's been  a heck of  month here at The Joys of Home Educating.  Lots of sickness 8(  (still can't shake the head cold)   However, we were able to fit some fun stuff in this week!

Right after Thanksgiving I decorate for Christmas!  This year, I am going with the LESS is MORE Concept.  I only put out about 1/2 of the decorations that I usually do.  Nativities are a MUST. We have several kinds. The girls have the Little People Nativity in their room.  This one shown was a gift from my mother a few years ago. I love it!

One of the other traditions we have is getting out our seasonal books.  This year was no exception.  I am in love with the writings of Christmas and Winter.  Each night we read at least 2 of them. They never seem to get old!

We had a quick visit with Santa (no one wanted to sit but Z gave a High Five)
Dropped off our donations for Toys.   We were able to find a Mailbox at the Santa location in the mail to drop off our Letters to Santa.    Found a Salvation Army kettle to drop our lose change off too!  We are starting our Christmas Around the world unit on Monday!  Looking forward to that!

Join myself, Mary and others over at Homegrown Learners for College Friday!

National Chocolate Chip Day

May 15, 2012 is National Chocolate Chip Day Today is National Chocolate Chip Day! Chocolate chips are an essential ingredient in dozens of delicious baked goods—chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip pancakes, chocolate chip muffins, chocolate chip brownies, chocolate chip bagels, and many more. You can even find chili recipes that call for these sweet morsels! In the 1930s, Ruth Graves Wakefield created the original chocolate chip cookie at her Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. Ruth intended to bake chocolate cookies for her guests, but she ran out of baker’s chocolate. She substituted with chopped up semi-sweet chocolate morsels and discovered that the pieces did not melt into the dough as she expected. Her cookies were an instant hit. Today, 25% of all the cookies baked in the United States are chocolate chip! To celebrate National Chocolate Chip Day, pick up a bag of chocolate chips at the supermarket and bake something yummy to share with friends and cowor...
