My Favorite Picks for Gift Giving

Here in the Newell household we have CUT WAY back over the last few years and adopted the LESS is MORE approach when it comes to gifts at Christmas.  Late November the children write out their list for Santa.  Instructions are that they are allowed to "ask" Santa for 5 things they wish to get and are told they will not be getting all of them but maybe 3 if they are good.  Funny thing, it was hard for them all to think of 5 things!

Here are my PICKS this year for some of the best gifts out there! (these are tried and true in our home and NEVER seem to get old with any of the kids)

LEGOS!  These new Duplo Building sets are great for the newest LEGO fans in your home. They come with instruction cards for easy building!

LOVE LOVE LOVE this book series for young girls. We are finished with 5 of them already and  our daughter will be getting 3 more for Christmas!

We have had Magna Tiles in our home for over 4 years and the children have never tired of them. On the pricey side BUT worth it in my opinion.

Sea Salt Caramels - need I say more?

ONE OF MY Favorite seasonal books!  A must have!

Wooden blocks - even I get in on the action at our home and build!

ZINGO Is a family favorite in our home. I believe they have 3 different versions of this game out now. We have two of them and the boxes are getting pretty beat from years of play.

Both our girls and our son LOVE to play with these.  Had them in the house for over 3 years and still a big hit!
(Not suitable for small children since they have small pieces)

National Chocolate Chip Day

May 15, 2012 is National Chocolate Chip Day Today is National Chocolate Chip Day! Chocolate chips are an essential ingredient in dozens of delicious baked goods—chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip pancakes, chocolate chip muffins, chocolate chip brownies, chocolate chip bagels, and many more. You can even find chili recipes that call for these sweet morsels! In the 1930s, Ruth Graves Wakefield created the original chocolate chip cookie at her Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. Ruth intended to bake chocolate cookies for her guests, but she ran out of baker’s chocolate. She substituted with chopped up semi-sweet chocolate morsels and discovered that the pieces did not melt into the dough as she expected. Her cookies were an instant hit. Today, 25% of all the cookies baked in the United States are chocolate chip! To celebrate National Chocolate Chip Day, pick up a bag of chocolate chips at the supermarket and bake something yummy to share with friends and cowor...
