The Reading Lesson - review and GIVEAWAY!

WINNER WINNER

LaVonne!

I am always looking for great curriculum for the kids (aren't we all?) Today I am sharing my review of a great curriculum from Mountiancastle Company -

The Reading Lesson

Here is what the daughter of the authors (Michael Levin, MD and Charan Langton, MS) tells me...15 years ago a book was written by her parents called -  The Reading Lesson. The book is a simple, fun program that teaches young children to read in 20 easy lessons. It makes the process of learning to read easy for both parents and children. The book is the #2 selling reading program in the US on Amazon, and has a 4.5 star average review. After writing the Reading Lesson, Development happened for other educational products that have become very popular with homeschoolers and families worldwide.

One of our products is well-suited to older children as well - The Verbal Math Lesson is an innovative way to teach teens to do tough math in their heads - we teach them all the tricks and shortcuts they need to do "big math" without a pencil or paper. It's perfect for elementary schools kids, middle school students, high schoolers, and even adults! (We have these books on hand, but this review is not for this book as we have not gotten to it yet...)

My review is on the The Reading  Lesson and it's companions - Storybook (CD ROM) and  Sounds of Letters (DVD).

Molly used the CD and Storybook the most this week. She did like using it and it was fairly easy for her to click through the program.  It was a little slow for her at times. But she loved using the companion book with it.  (She loves Mr. Giggle Bunny - the mascot)

The print is very large and goes right along with the Storybook CD ROM

I loved that the book had words grouped in "families" and at the beginning of each chapter - it had the summary page with what should be learned and what was introduced in the chapter.

The goal with The Reading Lesson is to teach your child how to read in 20 lessons.  Big Plus: you can really go at your own pace.  I will come back and let you know how she did!

If you are interested in winning a copy for your home - all of the books, CD's, DVD's shown in the picture it's your lucky day!

My kids LOVE all of the Junie B. Jones books! I read to them when they were small (and the ones that still are) and the older ones now read it themselves. We also took them to see the play of one of the books which was super awesome for us and the kids! They REALLY got to see one of their favorite books come to life!
We love Dr. Seuss books lately!! (preschoolpackets@gmail.com)

National Chocolate Chip Day

May 15, 2012 is National Chocolate Chip Day Today is National Chocolate Chip Day! Chocolate chips are an essential ingredient in dozens of delicious baked goods—chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip pancakes, chocolate chip muffins, chocolate chip brownies, chocolate chip bagels, and many more. You can even find chili recipes that call for these sweet morsels! In the 1930s, Ruth Graves Wakefield created the original chocolate chip cookie at her Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. Ruth intended to bake chocolate cookies for her guests, but she ran out of baker’s chocolate. She substituted with chopped up semi-sweet chocolate morsels and discovered that the pieces did not melt into the dough as she expected. Her cookies were an instant hit. Today, 25% of all the cookies baked in the United States are chocolate chip! To celebrate National Chocolate Chip Day, pick up a bag of chocolate chips at the supermarket and bake something yummy to share with friends and cowor...
