Farmhouse Friday No. 1

Welcome friends to Farmhouse Friday.  Each week I will be sharing with you what has been happening here at Woodwater Farmhouse, recipes, homeschooling and favorites from around the web. I hope you come in and hang out with me each Friday.

Today is Black Friday and it's the first time EVER that I can remember that I am not shopping!  That is because I am pretty much done except for a few on line purchases.  I want to enjoy the holidays so I was on top of it this year.

Last week we finished up Thanksgiving teachings in our homeschool.  Some of it has been "fun work" and other times really hitting the books hard.  We only hit the books for Monday and Tuesday and the rest of the week was family time and prepping the home for guests.

I was able to carve out some time for a little holiday crafting. Using what nature offers us here at the farmhouse, and some beautiful plaid and buffalo checked ribbon from Michaels, I made some festive holiday swags for the back deck and the house.

As you can see by the pictures, we had our first snow fall here on the mountain.  We woke up Sunday morning to 5 inches of wet heavy snow which, made for a magical morning indeed. It also snowed more Sunday night to put a fresh coat on it all.

If you follow me on Instagram you will know that I have been preparing for Thanksgiving and putting up our seven artificial Christmas trees (yes an intervention might be needed), decorating like a mad woman.  This Thanksgiving will be a little bit out of the norm for us with our grand baby due only 2 days after Christmas, my son and his wife will be staying home for Christmas this year instead of coming up to the house.  Of course, I had to have the house decorated for Christmas since we will also be celebrating Christmas with them (aka Thanksmas).  The kitchen is still all Thanksgiving and the rest of the house is Christmas. But you can bet I will be transitioning the kitchen today to all things Christmas! Watch for that.

It was so much fun to decorate the new house.

What I am obsessed with this week....

Have you decorated yet?

National Chocolate Chip Day

May 15, 2012 is National Chocolate Chip Day Today is National Chocolate Chip Day! Chocolate chips are an essential ingredient in dozens of delicious baked goods—chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip pancakes, chocolate chip muffins, chocolate chip brownies, chocolate chip bagels, and many more. You can even find chili recipes that call for these sweet morsels! In the 1930s, Ruth Graves Wakefield created the original chocolate chip cookie at her Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. Ruth intended to bake chocolate cookies for her guests, but she ran out of baker’s chocolate. She substituted with chopped up semi-sweet chocolate morsels and discovered that the pieces did not melt into the dough as she expected. Her cookies were an instant hit. Today, 25% of all the cookies baked in the United States are chocolate chip! To celebrate National Chocolate Chip Day, pick up a bag of chocolate chips at the supermarket and bake something yummy to share with friends and cowor
