Farmhouse Friday: Where I am failing and our week in pictures

Happy Fall - it's official...although the weather her in NY would prove you wrong. It's in the 80's now and the good news - the pool is still open!

It's been a busy week - filled with ups and downs. One would hope more ups than downs but it might be pretty equal this last week.

I have been having some car troubles lately and after three times of being back in the shop, praying finally fixed!

Now on to our week....

The garden is still producing tomatoes, cucumbers, squash and a TON of Asian Pears!

The on and off humidity and rain has these mushrooms growing everywhere!

One area in which I fail my family (kids mostly) is field trips. I used to take them all the time to far off places and I got so lazy about it over the last few years. I started being such a homebody and my driving tolerance for others on the road has gotten real bad. BUT I am really trying to venture out more and take the kids on fun excursions. We have had a few in the last month. This week I learned about a fun "diner" that I thought the kids and my mom would get a kick out of. It's an hour away in a different state but worth the trip. The food was ok but the atmosphere is what you go for!

Last weekend the farmhouse was full with laughter, kids and dogs!  We had a friend and her family and dog up along with my son and his family and dog. We all went apple picking (it was hot) and then came back and had a blast. Bonfire, outdoor movie night and great food!

It makes my heart full when the house is full. This is one reason we bought this home, to have guests come and use it and feel like they are at a retreat or on a mini vacation. I hope that conveys to them.

Also taking some time out for myself. I have been practicing my letter writing and last month, a little shop in our town started a Letter Writing Club. It has turned out to be such a blessing. Can't wait for October's meet up!

I am also back on track with eating right and working out. Thank you Jesus...the pounds starting creeping back on me and we cant have that!

The leaves are starting to change here and the deer getting their dark coats.  Soon the sun won't be as warm and the leaves will fall off and die into the ground where they will keep the seeds warm for the winter.

I do love all that Fall brings and fall in the Northeast is like no other.

Next month: We start back to our new school year October 2nd!! We are all excited to move on!  In light of the car repair bills, I am also attempting another NO Spend Month - it's been a while since I have done one and I am ready.

I pray you have a wonderful weekend and until next time we meet - be blessed!

National Chocolate Chip Day

May 15, 2012 is National Chocolate Chip Day Today is National Chocolate Chip Day! Chocolate chips are an essential ingredient in dozens of delicious baked goods—chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip pancakes, chocolate chip muffins, chocolate chip brownies, chocolate chip bagels, and many more. You can even find chili recipes that call for these sweet morsels! In the 1930s, Ruth Graves Wakefield created the original chocolate chip cookie at her Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. Ruth intended to bake chocolate cookies for her guests, but she ran out of baker’s chocolate. She substituted with chopped up semi-sweet chocolate morsels and discovered that the pieces did not melt into the dough as she expected. Her cookies were an instant hit. Today, 25% of all the cookies baked in the United States are chocolate chip! To celebrate National Chocolate Chip Day, pick up a bag of chocolate chips at the supermarket and bake something yummy to share with friends and cowor
