You won't believe what I am giving up!

As a lot of you know, we are doing a No Spend January.  If you want to read more about our wins and fails you can check out this post

SO I got to thinking...what if I could commit to a NO SPEND YEAR - SAY WHAT?

Ok now, simmer down...I am just considering when it comes to clothes, shoes, jewelry, handbags and cosmetics.  Honestly, I have MORE THAN enough of all of these things for probably more than a year, but let's just take this one year at a time..lol

I took a quick walk about my dressing room/closet and came up with YES, it's doable.

I will need to be creative with the clothing and mix and match like never before, but I can do it!

The only area in which I am concerned about, and only a little, is the cosmetics. I know it's not healthy to use mascara for more than 90 days at a time..so I might have to spend a little on that over the next year..giving myself  $50 budget for the entire 2018 on cosmetics (this only includes make up, not facial cleaning and moisturizing.)

What I am hoping to accomplish by this personal challenge...

1.  USE more of my clothes. Face it, most of us have our "go to" items and a lot of other items don't get touched but a few times a year.

2.  USE more of my jewelry. If I am being 100% transparent, my husband is generous with his gift giving of little blue boxes jewelry.  I should be wearing this more and not let it sit in my drawers.

3.  SAVINGS - of course we will see a savings if I don't purchase anything.

4.  Gratitude for what I have and how hard my husband has worked for it all.

I am excited!!! I love a good challenge!

Tell me, have you ever done this?  Would you be willing to try?

Watch for updates as I am sure I will be tempted!  Until next time...be blessed and spend less!

I was raised a Quaker so never had more than 10 outfits growing up and wasn't allowed to wear make up. It was a simple life. I was much more elaborate during my early 20's, but discovered that simplicity made life happier and easier. So, I went back years ago to having about 10 outfits for each season and I can't honestly remember the last time I wore make up. I hope you find it a peaceful experience.

Thanks for the plug. I am not selling that bag anymore, but I as m working on a pattern for it. So anyone can make one out of an old pair of cargo pants.

Great blog.
My husband and I have been doing this for awhile and it is funny because just this morning he commented that I need some new socks but I figured that they were good to go because there aren't hole yet. It sets the bar at a whole new level when you give up buying things. I went into this and the first thing that my mom did was start buying me clothes because she likes to have new things so she thought that I would too so she obviously doesn't understand that I am not upset with cutting back. That being said, I also would be hard pressed to spend $50 on makeup mostly because I don't use it anymore. Good luck in your journey!!!

National Chocolate Chip Day

May 15, 2012 is National Chocolate Chip Day Today is National Chocolate Chip Day! Chocolate chips are an essential ingredient in dozens of delicious baked goods—chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip pancakes, chocolate chip muffins, chocolate chip brownies, chocolate chip bagels, and many more. You can even find chili recipes that call for these sweet morsels! In the 1930s, Ruth Graves Wakefield created the original chocolate chip cookie at her Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. Ruth intended to bake chocolate cookies for her guests, but she ran out of baker’s chocolate. She substituted with chopped up semi-sweet chocolate morsels and discovered that the pieces did not melt into the dough as she expected. Her cookies were an instant hit. Today, 25% of all the cookies baked in the United States are chocolate chip! To celebrate National Chocolate Chip Day, pick up a bag of chocolate chips at the supermarket and bake something yummy to share with friends and cowor...
