Welcome friends to a special Farmhouse Friday today.
I am excited to share a curriculum that I found that is fun and educational!
This is not a new curriculum, but new to our homeschool. Years ago, my sister in law passed on some school books and magazines that her son was no longer using and in the pile was was a few items from Highlights. They sat on a shelf for a while, until recently, and collected dust.
I finally got around to pulling some of it out and what I found was a gem! There was this folder that said secret mission. I opened it and found a fun game/activity that I knew the girls would love.
After they completed it, I knew I had to look into ordering more for them.
Are you familiar with Highlights? I am sure you are. We have used their magazines in our homeschool for years but never their adventure kits.
(in their own words..)
For more than 70 years Highlights has been dedicated to helping families raise Curious, Creative, Caring, and Confident™ kids. On these pages, you’ll find parenting tips and advice, as well as ideas, activities, crafts, games, and recipes to enhance your everyday life as a family, and help you create lifelong memories. Our belief that children experience fun and joy when they use their innate creativity, curiosity, thinking ability, and imagination, as well as our commitment to the motto Fun with a Purpose™, can be found in all of our exceptional products for children, parents, and teachers. Together we can help children become their best selves.
Highlights - TOP SECRET ADVENTURES
Here is what you get with the kits:
(taken from their site)
The first full kit arrived last week and the girls dove into on Wednesday for "Where Are We Wednesday" (our geography day). Working together with 1 kit can be a challenge because each girl wants to do it all..but they are learning to cooperate.
The fun starts right in the beginning with opening the Mission envelope. They have to read it and find out what country their mission is in. They also have the villain cards to separate out and open the map up.
Everything is so well put together and nicely printed. The quality is top notch (as expected from Highlights). The country books will also be a nice addition to our home library.
The activity book has a different activity/mission that they have to complete using the book and puzzles that came with the book. After they solve each page they turn to the back and cross off a villain or an object that was not stolen. At the end of the mission they should have 1 villain left that was not crossed out and 1 item that was not stolen. That will be the end of the mission.
It takes them about 3 days to complete the mission working 2 hours per day on it.
