No Spend January - Monday Update - Week 2

Hi friends - WELCOME!  If you are on this No Spend January journey with us, how's it going? If you are not, maybe you want to jump right in!  You can find out the "guidelines" at this post

As promised, I am back today with an update on our second week of No Spend January with our fails and our wins!

First let's talk about what categories we spent money on:
  • Martial Arts - Samantha has a graduation coming up and we had to pay $ 50 for this. (every other month expense)
  • Gas - hubby's car
  • Medical bills (from December)
  • Car Payment
  • Groceries $ 96.13 (Walmart again)
  • Shoprite - sick kid with the flu - needed some medicine mid- week. spent $ 8.77
  • Discount Bread Store - bread, rolls spent $ 3.00
  • BJ's - needed water for our water cooler, T-paper, tissues and a few other household things $ 111.48

GROCERY and MEAL PLANNING - Week Two:

Well friends, I went back to Walmart this week. Doing the math, it just made sense while I am on my $ 100 weekly budget. If you remember last week I was under and had a surplus that I rolled over to this week. ($ 14 surplus - which I used pretty much on the Shoprite mid-week medicine run and the discount bread store)

$ 96.13

Shoprite $ .99 (Walmart was out of Cilantro)

Meal Plan:

  • Salmon with dill and lemon sauce. Side of rice and veggies
  • Spaghetti and meatballs, salad, garlic bread  (meatballs did not get used last week)
  • Faux Chicken Parm - using the Perdue breasts, moz cheese and some sauce side of pasta
  • Chicken Wraps - using the chicken strips, tortillas, lettuce, salsa and cheese
  • LoMein - never did this dish last week
  • Salads with English muffin pizzas
  • Leftovers - still have chili in the freezer also
  • Burgers with waffle fries and salad

Sides always include fruit and cut up veggies also.

Snacks - granola bars, fruit, ice cream, cookies or brownies, crackers with peanut butter, yogurt, smoothies and homemade banana bread.

Breakfast - bagels, eggs, English muffins, toast, cereal and I make muffins and banana bread

What We Did This Week:

We have one sick kiddo this week so staying in was a priority.  I did take the time to clean out my dressing room/closet and jewelry armore being home so much. This prompted this post.

I took Samantha to her martial arts class three times this week.

My monthly Letter Writing Club on Thursday night (cost is $ 5 for the club per month but I prepaid in December for three months)

Friday I had a friend over for some tea and fellowship.

Saturday shopping day and rest day.

Sunday was church and then we went to a friend of my husbands for football open house. (my mom stayed with the kiddos) - considering this a date day!  WHAT A GAME!  THE VIKINGS ADVANCE!

I hope you were able to stick to your goals!  Until next time - be blessed and spend less!

I am quietly doing the same thing. Less than 250 on groceries so far this month. I feel that is a win.

National Chocolate Chip Day

May 15, 2012 is National Chocolate Chip Day Today is National Chocolate Chip Day! Chocolate chips are an essential ingredient in dozens of delicious baked goods—chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip pancakes, chocolate chip muffins, chocolate chip brownies, chocolate chip bagels, and many more. You can even find chili recipes that call for these sweet morsels! In the 1930s, Ruth Graves Wakefield created the original chocolate chip cookie at her Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. Ruth intended to bake chocolate cookies for her guests, but she ran out of baker’s chocolate. She substituted with chopped up semi-sweet chocolate morsels and discovered that the pieces did not melt into the dough as she expected. Her cookies were an instant hit. Today, 25% of all the cookies baked in the United States are chocolate chip! To celebrate National Chocolate Chip Day, pick up a bag of chocolate chips at the supermarket and bake something yummy to share with friends and cowor...
